CANN 2019

Energy, environment and sustainable development

The Annual Congress of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CANN) is one of the events that the Catalan Society of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (SCN2) organizes along the year in order to popularize and give visibility to the research done in Catalonia. Its very first edition will be devoted to one of the main world issues: the environmental alterations caused by the human activity. Welcome to the CANNI-SCN2 2019: Energy, environment and sustainable development

During the last hundred years, there has been a recorded increase in temperature of 1°C in Europe. Although this might seem trivial, it has already produced huge repercussions on the economy and in agriculture worldwide. The world needs new approaches to sustain the human activity in an environmentally responsible way, and it’s crucial to raise awareness of this issue among the citizens and the governments. With this act, we would like to raise awareness about the role that Nanoscience and Nanotechnology could play in this ecological transition, and to offer a space for researchers working in Catalonia to expose and exchange its work.

We have conceived a scientific meeting of local researchers who are focused on proposing clever solutions to the current environmental challenges. Most of them are exploring new approaches related with the nanotechnological properties of matter, with potential applications in green energy production, air cleaning or recycling of hazardous wastes. We would like to bring them together in order to generate a space to exchange experience, to learn, and to generate new synergies between researchers who offer new and clever solutions to our global environmental problems.

If you are an enthusiastic student, or a motivated researcher, in any stage of your career (pre-doctorate, post-doctorate, principal investigator),  we kindly invite you to come to the first edition of the CANN – SCN2, during the week of science 2019 event, “La Setmana de la CIència 2019”, to celebrate science with us and to learn from our invited speakers, participate in our Poster Contest CANN-SCN2 2019, or to join our open debate “Which is the role of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in the Ecological Challenges?”.

We are waiting for you!

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to achieve peace and prosperity for people and the planet. Issues as clean energy and environmental care and sustainability are included on this list. Nanotechnology and research can play a key role on the achievement of this goals. [source:
